Cal Mercer

The person behind the part

Quiet confidence. Deep pocket.

Cal Mercer is the steady center of Sunward Relay. His electric-bass and synth-bass role is built around economical lines, warm weight, and the kind of space that lets an ensemble breathe.

In the band’s creative world, Cal connects the rhythmic detail of Money Raines’s hybrid kit to the guitars, keyboards, and saxophones above it. His character does not need a crowded part to make an impression; the placement of a note matters as much as the note itself.
